Pedestrian killed on Route 17B in Town of Bethel identified

The victim/pedestrian involved in the accident on State Route 17B near Ballard Rd. in Smallwood (Town of Bethel) has been identified by next of kin. The victim is Rita S. Sherman, age 32, of White Lake, NY.
An autopsy is scheduled for 7:00PM this evening (September 18.) The investigation is continuing.
Late Tuesday evening (9/17/13), A deputy from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Patrol came upon a car/pedestrian accident on State Route 17B in the Town of Bethel.
A 2007 Ford Taurus was proceeding eastbound near the intersection of Ballard Rd. at about 10:30 PM, when it collided with Sherman who was walking on the road.
The Smallwood-Monguap Valley Fire Department and Bethel Ambulance responded to the Accident. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Sullivan County Coroner Tom Warren.
The driver of the Taurus was taken to the Sheriff's Headquarters in Monticello for questioning.
The State Police accident reconstruction team was requested to the scene by the Sheriff and is assisting in the investigation.
No charges have been filed against the driver at this time. The investigation is continuing.
