On Wednesday August 14, 2013 the Village of Liberty Police Department arrested Kevin Brideson, 48 of Liberty, after responding to an incident on North Main Street.

Around 7:35 a.m. the Village of Liberty Police Department received a report of a suspicious male walking down North Main Street with a large metal pipe in his hand, swinging the pipe, banging it on the ground and acting in a threatening manner.

Liberty Police Officers Robert Morse and James Simon responded and found Brideson standing in the middle of the road with a 30 inch long steel pipe. At that time Brideson became confrontational with the officers and threatened them with the pipe. A struggle ensued resulting in Officer Morse sustaining injuries to his leg.

Officer Morse was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center by ambulance and was treated for injuries sustained to his leg. Brideson was also transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released for injuries sustained during the incident.

Brideson was charged with two counts of assault in the 2nd degree, attempted assault in the 1st degree, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer or peace officer, all felonies, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration in the 2nd degree, 2 counts of menacing in the 2nd degree, misdemeanors and disorderly conduct a violation.

Brideson was arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and was remanded to Sullivan County Jail without bail. He is due back in the Town of Liberty Court on August 20, 2013. Village of Liberty Police were assisted by the New York State Police, The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department and the Town of Fallsburg Police Department.
