51-inch TV stolen from WalMart

Posted

On Wednesday May 1, 2013, at about 10:30 AM, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office was called to WalMart in Monticello for a report of a theft of a 55 inch flat screen TV.

Store security reported that a subject stole the TV, loaded it into a vehicle in the parking lot and fled the scene prior to the patrol's arrival. The loss prevention officer was able to provide a license plate number that came back to a residence in Beacon, NY.

Sheriff's Deputy Rose Ionta, who was assigned to the investigation, immediately broadcast an all points bulletin for the suspect vehicle which was a red Acura TSX.

About an hour later the State Police in Montgomery contacted the Sheriff's Patrol and advised that a trooper had that vehicle stopped on Interstate 84 near exit 5.

The suspect, Joshua DeJesus, 25, of Wappingers Falls, was taken into custody and turned over to Sheriff's Deputies who transported him back to Monticello.

Deputies are investigating a second 24 inch LG TV that was found in the trunk of the suspect's vehicle. That TV had a sticker on it that indicated it came from the WalMart in Kingston.

DeJesus was arraigned before Town of Thompson Judge Perry Meltzer on a charge of petit larceny and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $350 cash bail/ $750 bond. The defendant is due back in court on May 8, 2013.
