Hawley man sentenced

District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Gary Brown, 26, of Hawley, P.A. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 7 years in state prison and 5 years post release supervision for the illegal possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and thirty-eight oxycodone pills.

Farrell said that Brown and another man, Jeremy Jeffrey, 26, also of Hawley, P.A., were stopped in a vehicle on West Broadway in the Village of Monticello by members of the New York State Police. A subsequent investigation revealed a loaded 9 mm handgun in the vehicle, with a 30 round magazine, along with thirty-eight oxycodone pills. The magazine was loaded with hollow point bullets.

Jeffrey was previously sentenced to 5 years in prison and 5 years of post release supervision on February 5, 2013, for his role in the possession of the loaded gun.

Farrell said, “This was a classic case of drugs and an illegal and unlawfully possessed gun. Jeffrey had prior involvement with illegal guns and drugs in Pennsylvania and after his plea in our court, while he was out on bail, Brown was arrested in Orange County for the possession of nearly 500 decks of heroin and has admitted his guilt in that felony drug offense. Neither man had any right to possess this loaded handgun and the New York State Police did an excellent job in getting this illegal gun and these illegal prescription drugs off our streets.”
