Fugitive arrested in Monticello after swallowing baggie

Monticello police arrested Edward M. Jackson (39) of Mount Vernon, NY on Friday 3/22/13. Edwards was charged with the following felony offenses: criminal possession of a controlled substance; tampering with physical evidence; forgery in the 2nd degree; fugitive from justice - he is wanted by the Tazwell county sheriff department in the State of Virginia)

At 5:50 PM Friday Monticello police officer Harry Mota was assisting New York state police on an investigation while at a residence at the horizons apartment complex in the village of Monticello. While being interviewed by PO Mota, Jackson told the officer his name was Rodney Tolud. Jackson was also in possession of a plastic baggie of “molly” which is a crystalline form of MDMA.

Jackson then did intentionally swallow the baggie of molly in front of the officer. Jackson was then arrested for tampering with physical evidence.

While being processed at the Monticello police station, officers discovered that Jackson was in possession of a plastic bag containing 3.7 grams of cocaine. Jackson also continued to tell officers his real name was Rodney Tolud and signed his fingerprints as such.

Monticello police then checked Jackson’s fingerprints response from DCJS and were able to confirm that his true identity was Edward M. Jackson. It was also revealed that Jackson was wanted by the sheriff department in Tazwell County, Virginia on an arrest warrant issued on 1/8/13 for conspiracy to sell and distribute of heroin.

Jackson was arraigned before village of Monticello justice Josephine Finn and remanded to the Sullivan county jail without bail pending further court action.
