On March 6, 2013, at approximately 8:39AM, Sullivan County 911 received a medical call at 8 Woodfield Rd., in the Town of Denning, Ulster County. EMS personnel from Mobil Medic arrived and discovered the 37 year old female occupant outside the residence, suffering from multiple injuries. The victim was transported to Catskill Regional Medical Center and was then transferred to Westchester Medical Center. The victim, identified as Jamielynn Bleakley, succumbed to her injuries on March 7, 2013.

An investigation was commenced by The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in conjunction with the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office into the circumstances surrounding the death. An autopsy, conducted at Westchester Medical Center, concluded that Bleakley died as a result of multiple injuries caused by an assault. The investigation also revealed that Gerald Babcock, age 39, had been living with the victim in the months prior to her death and that there had been indications of domestic violence during their relationship.

On March 11, 2013, Gerald K. Babcock was charged with Manslaughter in the first degree by State Police after being apprehended in the Village of Liberty, by Officers from The Village of Liberty Police Dept. He was arraigned before Town of Ulster Justice Susan Kessick and was committed to the Ulster County Jail without bail pending further court proceedings.
