Posted

On Sunday February 3, 2013 at approximately 5:30 PM deputies on patrol in the Town of Thompson stopped a vehicle for loud exhaust and no brake lights on Haddock Road. The driver, Mathew Irelan, 24, of Rock Hill, was taken into custody for Driving While Impaired by drugs.

Deputies noticed a brand new Gateway Computer, Canon digital camera, (both still in the box), and a bean bag chair in the back seat of the suspect’s car. Further investigation revealed that the merchandise, valued at approximately $1200, was stolen from WalMart on January 30th.

Irelan was taken back to the Sheriff’s Office where he was recognized by Deputy Joseph Gagliardo as a suspect on a WalMart security tape in regards to a larceny on December 1, 2013. On that date Irelan allegedly stole an HP desk top computer and a Nikon camera worth approximately $1500 dollars.

Under questioning by Sheriff’s Deputy Jack Harb, Irelan also admitted to burglarizing the Brother Bruno’s restaurant in the Thompson Square Mall on December 17, 2012. Approximately $1500 in cash and credit card receipts were taken in that crime.

In addition to the DWI, Mathew Irelan was charged with several counts of Grand Larceny, Possession of Stolen Property and Burglary. He was arraigned before Town of Thompson Judge Martin Miller and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
