On Sunday, August 19, 2012, the New York State Police received reports of an unknown person shooting at passing vehicles at the intersection of County Route 12 and County Route 37 in the town of Wawayanda. Troopers responded and interviewed two motorists who had their vehicles' side windows shattered as they drove past the intersection. A search of the area located a 13-year-old juvenile and the recovery of a BB gun.
The juvenile was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Orange County Family Court to answer charges of Criminal Mischief in the third degree and Reckless Endangerment in the second degree. The juvenile was then turned over to a parent.
