University Official from Serbia Visits Monticello

On July 16, Sullivan County Court Judge, Frank J. LaBuda, and Commissioner of Jurors, George Cooke welcomed the Honorable Mel Dudic, the Dean and CEO of the International University located in Novi Pesar, Serbia, to a tour and program of the Sullivan County Courthouse in Monticello, New York.

Rektor Dudic has invited Judge LaBuda to return to the University in September to provide another lecture series on the Jurors and the Jury Trial System in America. The International University is non-state funded University with additional campuses in Belgrade, the capitol of Serbia, and also in the neighboring country of Kosovo.

The current system of justice in Serbia and Kosovo is the typical European administration of justice which only provides for administrative dispositions of civil and criminal cases and does not offer litigants a jury trial method of resolving differences in criminal and civil matters.

Rektor Dudic said “I am very pleased with the concept of the American Jury Trial System and hope that Judge LaBuda will assist our Country in enhancing our legal system.” Judge LaBuda is very pleased and will graciously accept Rektor Dudic’s invitation on behalf of the University.
