On Wednesday June, 27, 2012, John Armbruster, 52, of Monticello plead guilty in Sullivan County Court to the February 17, 2012 robbery of the Eldred Branch of the First National Bank of Jeffersonville.

On the date of the robbery, Armbruster walked into the bank on State Route 55 at around 9:50 AM and passed a note to the teller that stated he had a gun and demanded cash. Although a gun was never displayed, Armbruster fled with $2,000 dollars.

Sheriff’s detectives spent a week running down leads and eventually developed Armbruster as a person of interest. On Friday February 24, 2012 at about 8:15 AM John Armbruster was detained for questioning when he was spotted at the Stewart Shop on High street in Monticello. He was charged that afternoon with third degree robbery and fourth degree grand larceny. He has been sitting in the Sullivan County jail since then on $80,000 bail.

“There was not a lot to go on in the initial stages of this investigation”, said Sheriff Mike Schiff. “Good old fashion police work is what solved this case”. The Sheriff thanked District Attorney Jim Farrell and his office for aggressively pursuing this case.
