District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Anthony Syage, 44, of Callicoon, N.Y. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 5 years in state prison and 5 years of post release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, a class C violent felony.

Syage admitted to illegally possessing a loaded 22 caliber Colt revolver on September 10, 2011, in a motor vehicle on State Route 17B in the Town of Bethel. Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies had been called to a domestic involving Syage on that date.

Bethel Constables, who assisted, observed the gun, that was fully loaded and operational in Syage’s vehicle, in the pocket on the rear of the driver’s seat. Twelve rounds of ammunition were also found in the cupholder of the vehicle. Syage had previously been convicted of the felony of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree in Richmond County in 1998.

Farrell said, “The sentence handed down in this case shows my continued commitment to remove illegal guns and those who possess them from the community. This individual had no business possessing this weapon as a convicted felon. The police, thankfully, were able to take control of the domestic that they were called to and ensured that no one was seriously injured.”
