On May 21st 2012 at 7:30 PM Honesdale Borough Police officers investigated a reported robbery and assault that occurred at a Church Street residence.

According to police, Christopher RUPP, 28 years of age, of Honesdale, called 911 and reported that he had just been robbed and assaulted inside his residence. RUPP advised responding officers that the rear door of his residence was forced open by a subject who struck him with a baseball bat, stole his wallet, which contained a large sum of cash, and cut his face.

After a thorough investigation was conducted by the Honesdale Police Department, it was determined that RUPP had fabricated the entire incident he had reported to the police department.

On 05-24-2012 Honesdale Police filed Misdemeanor charges against RUPP. The charges consist of False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities, Obstructing Administration of Law and Unsworn Falsification to Authorities.
