Athens man arrested for gravestone toppling

The Village of Athens Police Department and the New York State Police in Catskill report the arrest of a Village of Athens resident after an investigation into the toppling and subsequent damage to 13 grave markers at the Athens Rural Cemetery.

BACH J. LACKIE, 27, of Athens, NY, was charged with Criminal Mischief in the 2nd degree, a class D Felony, and Cemetery Desecration in the 1st degree, a class E Felony. The investigation revealed LACKIE entered the Athens Rural Cemetery early Saturday morning on May 5, 2012, and while on the grounds, knocked over 13 grave markers causing damage to eight of them.

LACKIE was arraigned before Town of Athens Judge James Robinson and remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
