Posted

On February 17, 2012 at approximately 10:00 AM, The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a robbery at the Eldred branch of the First National Bank of Jeffersonville.

A white male reportedly entered the bank and passed a note to the teller which stated that he had a gun. No weapon was displayed. The man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. Sheriff's detectives followed numerous leads over the next week which led to a suspect being taken into custody on Friday February 24, 2012. John W. Armbruster, 52, was arrested without incident at about 2:00 PM in the parking lot of the Stewart's Shop at the corner of High Street and Pleasant Avenue in the Village of Monticello.

Detectives then executed a search warrant on Armbruster's vehicle and his room at the Hertitage Inn on Broadway in Monticello. Armbruster was charged with Robbery in the 3rd degree and Grand Larceny in the 4th degree, both felonies. The suspect was arraigned before Town of Highland Judge Anthony LaRuffa and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bail. Sheriff Mike Schiff thanked the District Attorney's Office, State Police, and Town of Highland Constables for their assistance in the investigation.
