Kerhonkson, NY -- On Dec 28, 2011, the New York State Police at Ellenville responded to a fully involved structure fire on Upper Cherrytown Rd Kehonkson NY, in the Town of Rochester, Ulster County NY. The state police and the Kerhonkson/Accord Fire Department with the assistance of the Olive Fire Department, found a fully involved structure fire of an abandoned school house that dated from the late 1800’s.

The responding Ulster County Fire Investigation Team found the cause of the fire to be suspicious and ruled that the fire was not accidental in nature. State Police at Ellenville found through their investigation and interviews that three neighborhood children, ages 8, 10 and 12 had been playing in the vacant schoolhouse that had most recently been used to store hay bails.

The children had started a small fire with a lighter and were unable to extinguish the flames which quickly got out of control. All three children escaped the building without injury. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and no injuries were sustained.

On Dec 28, 2011 all three juvenile defendants were arrested for Arson in the Fourth Degree, Felony, processed and released with appearance tickets to appear at the Ulster County Family Court at a later date.
