Cairo food stamp arrest

The New York State Police at Catskill announce the arrest the owners of the South Cairo General Store located on Rt-23B in the Town of Cairo for Misuse of Food Stamps, a misdemeanor, following an investigation involving food stamp transactions in Greene County.

State Police Investigators, along with the Greene County Social Services Fraud Unit, investigated suspicious food stamp transactions in several Greene County Retail establishments. As a result of this investigation, KETAN PURANI, age 55, and SAGER PURANI, age 28 of the South Cairo General Store, were each charged with one count of Misuse of Food Stamps, misdemeanors. Investigation revealed the defendants allowed customers to purchase items that were not authorized by Social Service Law.

Both subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Cairo Court on November 29, 2011 at 7pm.
