Corporal Scott Walck has received a letter of commendation from the commanding officer of Pennsylvania State Police Troop R in Dunmore for successfully working to prevent a suicide with the assistance of Trooper John Strelish.
According to the letter, On September 12, Walck and Strelish responded to the scene of an attempted suicide at Wallenpaupack Estates in Wayne County. A woman at the scene was threatening to hang herself according to the woman’s estranged husband.
The victim was located in a detached garage, and Walck began immediately communicating with the victim, who repeated the threat that she was going to kill herself by hanging. Strelish spotted the woman through a window and saw that she had a rope tied around her neck. Both men immediately entered the garage and according to the letter, saved the victim from further injury or death.
Captain Francis Hacken concluded the letter, “As your commanding officer, it is with great pride that I present you with this Troop Commander’s Letter of Commendation for your exemplary performance of duty.”
