Woman pleads guilty in theft of $16,000 from Sullivan County Probation Department

Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Leigh Shaddock, age 41, of Liberty, NY entered a plea of guilty to Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class D felony, in Sullivan County Court. Shaddock, who worked as the administrative assistant to the Director of Sullivan County Probation, admitted to stealing over $16,000.00 in funds from September 2009 through June of 2010.

According to Farrell, the monies Shaddock stole included DWI administrative fees collected from individuals sentenced to probation and restitution money collected by probation for the victims of crime.

Farrell said Shaddock falsified the records to cover up her thefts, but the scheme was uncovered when a probation officer discovered a problem with the restitution account and reported the findings to then Director, Tom Fogarty.

Shaddock was arrested after an investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office. The county’s audit department also aided in the prosecution of this case. Farrell said he will request that Shaddock be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in state prison when she is sentenced on January 26, 2012. Shaddock is free on bond pending sentencing.
