Monticello man arrested in connection with Liberty shooting

Posted

After an intense investigation into two shootings in the Village of Liberty, Liberty Police have made an arrest. The shootings occurred late Saturday night into early Sunday morning and resulted in several bullets passing through exterior walls of an occupied residence and into the living quarters of that residence.

The first shooting occurred after a verbal dispute turned physical and the second was a drive-by shooting related to the earlier dispute.

Both shootings occurred less than a block away from where Liberty Police served a no-knock search warrant less than four months earlier, in a once quiet residential neighborhood, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of cocaine and over $25,000.00 in US currency.

As part of this investigation, the Liberty Police, with the assistance of the Monticello Police Department, the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorneys Office, executed a no-knock search warrant at Sleepy Hollow Apartments in Monticello.

As a result, Liberty Police arrested Jensy Delacruz, 19 years old, of Monticello. Jensy was charged with Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First degree, both felonies. Jensy was arraigned in Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail. The investigation is still ongoing, with possible gang involvement being pursued, and additional arrests possible.
