After a three week investigation into larcenies from parked motor vehicles in the town of Wallkill, New York State Police at Middletown arrested Julio Morales, age 40 and Janette Cirilo, age 36 both of Middletown, NY on August 4.

The investigation began on July 12th after a vehicle parked at Crystal Run Health Care, had a window smashed out and a pocketbook along with other items were taken from the vehicle.

On July 22nd, a second vehicle in the same lot also had a window broken and items were again taken from the car.

Investigation revealed that Morales, after stealing the pocketbooks would use the credit cards and identity to purchase items in area businesses to sell along with the items taken from the vehicles. The Town of Wallkill Police Department also had several open investigations into larcenies from vehicles, in area parking lots.

Surveillance was established in the area lots and Morales was observed operating a tan Honda with New York registration plates in the Galleria Mall parking lot. A short vehicle pursuit began when Morales spotted the Officers. He attempted to flee, driving the wrong way on North Galleria drive.

He then abandoned his vehicle in the train station parking lot and disappeared. Additional surveillance was established on a Bellvernon avenue residence and at about 6:00pm Morales, after a short foot chased, was arrested. Cirilo was located at the same residence and arrested without incident.

Morales was charged with four counts of grand larceny fourth degree (felony), four counts of forgery second degree (felony), three counts of identity theft (felony), two counts of criminal mischief fourth degree (misdemeanor), one count of resisting arrest (misdemeanor) and one count of Fleeing an Officer in a motor vehicle third degree (misdemeanor).

Additionally, a parole warrant for Morales was obtained. Cirilo was charged with two counts of Forgery in the second degree (felony). Morales was committed to Orange County Jail. Cirilo was arraigned and released. Additional charges related to the Town of Wallkill investigations are pending.
