SHOHOLA, PA — Life Scout Jonathan Langberg of Shohola Troop 76 attended the Boy Scouts of America National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) at Camp Nooteeming in Salt Point, NY, along with another scout from Troop 77 of Matamoras, this past summer.

The weeklong course is presented by the Hudson Valley Council each year in order to assist aspiring young leaders achieve new skills in all aspects of leadership. These skills include, but are not limited to goal setting, public speaking, troop organization and motivation. During this weeklong training, the NYLT participants are separated into patrols, consisting of approximately eight individuals. The leadership positions within the patrol change daily, so each participant has the opportunity to gain experience.

Langberg said, “The NYLT environment is unlike any other. I have never had the opportunity to make such good friends as quickly as I could within that week. It was challenging getting up at 6 a.m., but that was mainly because we all stayed up really late hanging out and having a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to taking my new skills back to Troop 76.”

Within the troop, Langberg currently holds the rank of patrol leader. Langberg firmly believes that the NLYT training, presented by the Hudson Valley Council, could not have been possible without the dedication put forth by the program staff. He indicated that youth staffers instructed most of the classes, while the adults guided the staffers’ work.
