Writer/activist to explore topic of fascism

BEACH LAKE, PA — At 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 13 at the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist service, local activist and writer Skip Mendler will lead an interactive discussion on the topic “If You Can Keep It: A Handy Guide to the Prevention and Early Detection of American Fascism.” His presentation, based on a forthcoming book of the same title, will explore the origins and meanings of the word “fascism,” the traits of fascist states, and practical strategies that citizens can use to counteract the development of fascism in the United States. Mendler suggests a “public health” model that views fascism as a “disease of the body politic” with not only identifiable symptoms, but also specific means of prevention. A Quaker, Green Party activist and co-founder of Waynepeace, Mendler also writes the “Peace and Justice Files” column for The River Reporter.

This program will take place at the Berlin Township Community Center. For more information visit www.uduuf.org. Following the program there will be a social time and refreshments.
