MONTICELLO, NY — Bradley Dreher of Roscoe and Melissa Symanski of Parksville were chosen to receive United Way of Sullivan County’s 2014 Bob Rosen Memorial Scholarship Awards. The scholarship winners each received a $500 check to help advance their educational goals. The scholarship is open to graduating students in all Sullivan County school districts and is awarded on the basis of a combination of GPA, extracurricular activities, community service, athletic participation, character references and a 500-word essay. After a rigorous evaluation process, the scholarship committee anonymously selected this year’s recipients.

Bradley Dreher, who graduated from Roscoe Central School as valedictorian of the class of 2014, heads to Binghamton University in the fall to major in mechanical engineering. Melissa Symanski of Parksville graduated from Liberty High School and will be attending Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications to pursue a degree in communication management and design.

The memorial scholarship pays tribute to Rosen, a local attorney, who was a life-long resident of Sullivan County and a graduate of Monticello High School. Rosen was a strong community supporter and an avid sports enthusiast. The Bob Rosen Memorial Scholarship serves to perpetuate his memory by assisting deserving students who embody the characteristics of athleticism, sportsmanship, scholarship and service.
