It may seem a bit early to talk about it, but soon it will be July 4th. Charlie Knapp Sr. has already been selling Narrowsburg Fire Department chicken barbeque tickets, so it can’t be that early to talk about the 4th. For $10 your ticket will get you a complete take-out barbeque chicken dinner to be picked up at the firehouse from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 4. You can purchase your tickets in advance from the Narrowsburg firemen and women.

After licking your fingers clean on the 4th, it will be time to position yourself to see the fireworks display. The fireworks will be coming from the mountain ridge above town, basically the same location as last year, so you will have to locate the best spot for viewing. Remember the ridge has been chosen because it is an acceptable distance from nesting eagles. You may not be able to hear the large booms as well as years gone by, but the display is sure to please you.

Now for the hitch. Fireworks are very expensive. A few very generous local businesses donate toward the expense, but more funding is needed. Please send a donation to the Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce at P.O. Box 300, or if you prefer a tax deductible donation, write your check out to the “TLDC” (short for the Tusten Local Development Corporation) and mail it to 210 Bridge St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764.

While we are talking July, save the date of July 12 for the Turtle Trot, a 10k walk (or run) in memory of Doug Ackermann and Brenna Darling. As a tribute to both of them, 100% of the funds raised from the Turtle Trot will be passed on to families in Sullivan County impacted by catastrophic illness. More information will follow as we get closer to the date. Can’t wait? Phone April Ackermann at 845/701-9054.

Lastly, early congratulations are in order to all new graduates. Now, on to the next phase of life!
