SAUGERTIES, NY — Local project Catskill Made revealed its second collection of six works by Kingston-based designer Crystal Moore. Moore creates high-quality leather and canvas accessories including weekender bags, messenger bags, clutches and everyday purses.
Inspired by the products of generations past, Moore’s work is built to last. She describes her style as “utilitarian meets fashion,” and she hand-dyes the leather and hand-waxes the canvas using her own special blend of oils and waxes, specifically formulated to allow the pieces to “get a little rough.”
In the written feature that accompanies her collection, Moore talks with Catskill Made founder Tom Smith about moving to the region, leaving her “day job” behind to focus on her artistic vision, and the challenges and perks of becoming a full-time artisan. She also discusses her focus on high-quality materials and craftsmanship The collection and the feature will be at catskillma.de.
The Catskill Made team is looking to connect with local artists and makers who are interested in being featured and selling their goods through the online shop. The project is open but not limited to leather goods, chapbooks, small art pieces like prints, paintings and sculptures, home goods, maple syrup, pottery and clothing. Potential makers should contact Tom Smith at hello@catskillma.de for consideration.
