LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — New Hope Community announced that its basketball team has been selected to compete at the Special Olympics State Games taking place June 6 through the 8 in Buffalo on the campus of SUNY Buffalo.

The New Hope Unified Basketball Team, comprised of supported individuals and New Hope staff, took home a gold medal from tournament play at SUNY New Paltz in April. The team competing at the upcoming state event is made up solely of supported individuals.

A contingent of athletes and support staff will make the trip to Buffalo for the weekend, including Kiera Browne, the team’s head coach and New Hope Community’s coordinator of athletics.

“Being selected in this lottery is a major win for the New Hope Team,” said Browne. “The athletes have worked very hard throughout the year.”

New Hope Community has been providing support for individuals with developmental and other intellectual disabilities since 1975. For more information, visit www.newhopecommunity.org.
