Sons of Norway honors a member on her 90th birthday

LACKAWAXEN, PA — At the March 16th meeting of the Bernt Balchen Lodge #3-566, a long-time member was recognized on her 90th birthday and given thanks for her participation in the Sons of Norway for 47 years.

Lilly Tonnessen was surprised with the honor given her. Thinking she was going to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the Lodge, she was led to a seat of honor with happy birthday balloons attached and was given thanks for her work in the lodge and presented with a commemorative Third District Medal.

Tonnessen was originally a member of the Brooklyn Lodge of the Sons of Norway, and when she moved to Pennsylvania, she joined the newly formed Bernt Balchen Lodge in 1977, and became an active associate member. During her years with Bernt Balchen Lodge, she could always be counted on to create and donate crafts for the craft fair, as well as helping out wherever needed.
