Science comes alive for children’s writers

HONESDALE, PA — The Highlights Foundation and several award-winning science editors and writers will host a five-day workshop for children’s writers who share their love for discovery with young readers from March 16 to 21 at its 1,300-acre campus in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Leading the workshop is Andy Boyles, science editor at Highlights for Children for 19 years. He was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2012.

Authors include Steven R. Swinburne, Gail Jarrow, Loree Griffin Burns, Catherine D. Hughes and Elizabeth Preston. Guest speaker Laurence Pringle is the author of more than 100 books for children about science, nature, and humanitarian and environmental issues. Among his many awards and honors, he has received a lifetime achievement award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
