ELDRED, NY — The Old Mine Road Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently announced the 2014 winner of the DAR Good Citizens Scholarship. Peter Vorstadt is a senior at Eldred High School and won this year’s competition. He was presented with a $100 check, a DAR pin, and a certificate. He is a three-sport varsity athlete, an Eagle Scout, and is active in leadership roles, both in the high school and in the community.

The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. It is open to area high school seniors. To be selected as a DAR Good Citizen, a senior must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. He or she must have two letters of recommendation and complete a supervised essay on a patriotic topic. Vorstadt’s application and essay were sent on for regional competition. If selected, he will compete in state and national competitions for a $5,000 scholarship as well as numerous other prizes.
