MIDDLETOWN, NY — On Monday, January 20, Orange Regional Medical Center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of its Children’s Emergency Department. Hospital staff, board members, physicians and community members were in attendance as Scott Batulis, Orange Regional’s President and CEO, spoke about the need for a separate treatment area set apart from the adult patients currently seen in the hospital’s main emergency department. The department opened its doors on Wednesday, January 22, and is now officially open to the community.

The newly constructed department offers child-specific private treatment rooms, a triage area and a dedicated nurses’ station. Each room is uniquely enhanced with hand-painted murals and custom artwork by local artists that calm children’s fears and anxieties. Treatment rooms are also fitted with flat-screen televisions to help distract children from their illness or injury.
