Visions for a sustainable future: a climate change symposium

ELDRED, NY — Sullivan Alliance for Sustainable Development (SASD) is partnering with North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL) in Highland Lake, NY and with the Town of Highland on “The Weather Project,” a two-year exploration of all things relating to the weather: how it affects us and how we affect it.

The centerpiece of SASD’s collaboration with NACL will be a free, two-day symposium featuring distinguished scholars and practitioners with expertise in climate science, agriculture, architecture, energy, building science, materials management, public health, planning, economic development, the faith community and local government. The symposium is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16 at the Highland Senior Center, Route 55.

“Our goal is to inspire informed action—from individual consumer choices to business initiatives, climate-smart planning and robust advocacy for enlightened climate policy,” says SASD Co-Executive Director Carol Roig. Sessions will be freewheeling and cross-disciplinary, illuminating the many aspects and impacts of climate change. NACL will highlight the climate theme with entertaining interludes of original performance. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share for a communal lunch.

Registration for the symposium is free but registration is required. Email sasdonline@gmail.com to reserve your place.
