Five reasons to love chocolate

Posted

A friend of mine once told me, “Don’t trust anyone who doesn’t like chocolate.” Well, I wouldn’t take it that far, but I certainly feel an affinity with fellow chocolate lovers. And so here are just a few reasons to love chocolate.

  • Chocolate melts in your mouth.
  • It contains chemicals called opioids to soothe your mood.
  • It is associated with love and romance (especially on Valentine’s Day).
  • It is good for you (containing flavanoids and antioxidants).
  • It’s great for your sex life.

While you’re mulling over these pluses, what if I told you that you can make a chocolate cake in five minutes using your microwave oven? Seriously.

Another friend shared this recipe with me a few years ago. She also warned me that it may be the most dangerous cake recipe in the world; with this recipe you are only five minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of day or night.

5-minute chocolate cake in a mug

Serves 1

This can serve 2, if you want to feel slightly more virtuous.

4 Tbsp flour

4 Tbsp sugar

2 Tbsp cocoa

1 egg

3 Tbsp milk

3 Tbsp oil

3 Tbsp chocolate chips (optional)

A small splash of vanilla extract

1 LARGE coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to the mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed. Allow cake to cool a little and tip it out onto a plate if desired. Enjoy!
