Crystal Run raises funds for Relay for Life

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Physicians and staff of Crystal Run Healthcare came together to fundraise for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. A total of $2,550 funds were raised by employees in a variety of ways including a practice-wide dress-down day as well as numerous raffles and bake sales throughout the last several months.

Monticello beautified

MONTICELLO, NY — Thanks to Sullivan Renaissance, the Village of Monticello and the Kiwanis Club of Monticello working together, there is now a beautiful flower bed below the welcome sign on Route 42 near the beer store, greeting visitors to the Village of Monticello.

Forestburgh General Store opens

FORESTBURGH, NY — There will be a ribbon cutting for the Forestburgh General Store, 2841 Rte. 42, on Thursday, July 29 at 12 noon. The Forestburgh General is a full-service café, deli and grocery store specializing in local Sullivan County wares, serving salads, sandwiches and locally roasted coffees. Stop in on June 29 between 11 a.m.

Edward Jones office opens in Port Jervis

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Tri-State Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Edward Jones at its new location at 139 Pike St. on May 31. The office is on the first floor and includes reception, guest area, conference room and restroom as well as a private office.

HAWLEY, PA — Books & Prints at Pear Alley, formerly located on Broad Street in Milford, has permanently moved to 202 Main Ave. in Hawley. Renamed Main Avenue Books & Bindery, it offers antiquarian and collectible books and all book-binding services from Blue Dog Bindery.

Looking Back

Two of the great engineering marvels of the 19th century met in the center of Honesdale, PA. The D&H Canal Company Gravity Railroad from Carbondale met the D&H Canal at the docks, and millions of tons of anthracite coal were loaded onto canal boats for the 104-mile trip to the Hudson River annually between 1828 and 1898.
