Cochecton Papers I was published July 1977 to commemorate the town of Cochecton’s past and to remind us of a promising future. Lillian Krauss chaired the Cochecton Bicentennial Committee. Sixteen years later Pauline Johnson-Hofer and Dorothy Esselman informed Krauss that there was a profit from the bicentennial celebrations stemming from the sale of books. This inspired the committee to write Cochecton Papers II. Now, 24 years later, the remaining committee’s majority decision was to partner with the Cochecton Preservation Society, Inc. to write Cochecton Papers III.

Krauss noted, “The books are not to be considered the end of a long train of events, but rather the beginning of a fresh interest in the people and events of the Town of Cochecton.” A reprint of the first two books is available for purchase at $20 each. Book sales will fund the Cochecton Papers III. There are more stories to tell worthy of remembering. Please consider sharing your local history on this next project.

The next meeting of the Cochecton Preservation Society will be a pot-luck lunch on Tuesday, July 11 at 6 p.m., at the Cochecton Train Station, 8537 State Rte. 97, Cochecton, NY. It is open to all; bring a dish. Free fun and refreshments. For more information visit cochectonprese rvationsociety.com, email cps12726@gmail.com, or call 845/932-8104.
