Some BioBlitz critters

Posted

As Sandy Long reported in last week’s River Talk, there were 759 different species counted at the 2016 Upper Delaware BioBlitz at Ten Mile River Boy Scout Camp in Tusten, NY during the last weekend of June. The BioBlitz was also held at this site during the spring of 2014, and this will present an opportunity for scientists to observe any significant changes of species counts that may have occurred during the intervening two years.

I spent that Friday, collection day, identifying odonata (dragonflies and damselflies). I did not spot a banded pennant (see the River Talk column from the June 26 issue), but that could be due to weather differences or other factors. I did see a myriad of odonata, as well as a lot of other critters during this year’s Upper Delaware BioBlitz. Plants and animals are still being identified; this week’s images are just a small sample of what I saw.
