Upper Delaware BioBlitz

On June 29, the public is invited to experience the diversity of life on a property owned by the Norcross Wildlife Foundation in the Northeast corner of Wayne County, during the first Upper Delaware BioBlitz.

At a BioBlitz, biologists and volunteers gather to collect, identify and catalogue as many living things as possible on a demarcated property in a 24-hour period.

The goal is to highlight the biodiversity of the Upper Delaware River watershed. Teams will focus on specific categories of life, including aquatic macroinvertebrates, birds, botany, fish, fungi, reptiles and amphibians, invertebrates, mammals, mosses and lichens.

Recently, volunteers met at the site near the confluence of the East and West branches of the Delaware River in Starlight, PA. During the brief time spent exploring, an interesting array of specimens was observed, some of which are depicted here.

As a member of the steering committee, I extend a personal invitation to all River Talk readers to join us that day for an adventurous and educational experience.

View the collected specimens, talk to the experts and enjoy a workshop, all at no charge. Bring the family from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to learn more.

Voluneers are needed for various roles.
