Mohican Lake Rod and Gun Club is sponsoring a cooking challenge contest at the Sparrowsbush Firehouse, 1-4pm. Come to the shootout and sample a variety of appetizers then vote for the one you liked best. 50/50 drawings, big beer raffle, beverages. $10 ticket. 845/341-8401.

Another drowning victim

New York State Police in Middletown are investigating the apparent drowning of a New Jersey man in the Delaware River. On August 17 at approximately 1:15 p.m., Jamel Rounds, age 21, of Paterson, NJ was swimming in the Delaware River near a private residence on Sleepy Hollow Road in the Sparrowbush section of the Town of Deerpark.  Read more

Hawk’s Nest repairs resume

Those who breathed a sigh of relief when repair work concluded last fall on the snakelike stretch of NYS Route 97 known as the Hawk’s Nest, must now hold their breath to see when the recently resumed activities will conclude.  Read more

Long Island man drowns in Upper Delaware

The body of 71-year-old Angelo Zotto of Seldon, NY was recovered on May 30, in the Middle Delaware River near Dingman’s Ferry, PA. The body had drifted some 25 miles downstream from where Zotto fell off a raft in the Upper Delaware River in the rapids at Butlers Rift near the Hawk’s Nest two days earlier. He was discovered by boaters near the Dingman’s Ferry bridge in the Delaware Water Gap.  Read more
