Residents speak out against rehab at school; supervisor: the law will be followed

The largest crowd in years gathered at the Tusten Town Hall for the meeting on June 23, drawn by word that the vacant Narrowsburg school building, in the center of the tiny hamlet, will be sold to a couple that plans to open a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in it. Joan and Robert Buto own and operate a rehab facility in Florida called Changes Treatment Center.  Read more

Narrowsburg School sold to highest bidder; Sullivan West Board of Education accepts Buto offer of $751,000

A special meeting of the Sullivan West Board of Education was called to order at 6:00 p.m. on June 19. Immediately after reciting the pledge of allegiance, the board convened an executive session, to discuss two purchase offers for the unused Narrowsburg School, one from Brendan Weiden for a multi-use community center and one from Joan Buto for a substance abuse rehabilitation center.  Read more

Two bids placed for Narrowsburg School

NARROWSBURG, NY — Two bids have recently been placed for the abandoned Narrowsburg School. One is from Joan Buto, who plans to turn the school into a drug and alcohol treatment center, and the other is from Brendan and Kathy Weiden, who said in a press release that they plan to turn it into “a multiuse facility that supports the education, arts, agriculture and food, municipal needs, fitness, wellness, recreation and tourism, with flexible use spaces for special events.”  Read more
