Gordon Jenkins, the mayor of Monticello, reportedly turned up at the site of a car accident on Broadway on November 16, and a volunteer firefighter suspected that he had been drinking. He reported his suspicion to the Monticello police. Jenkins left the scene but was later arrested by the Monticello police and taken to the station. Read more

The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission has issued the following statement: “We are pleased that the U.S. Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) that will provide basic protections against workplace discrimination to LGBT people. However, we are concerned that the House of Representatives will not get enough votes to make this important bill into the law of the land.
