Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service

Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service in the Bethlehem Temple Church on Fairground Road, 7pm. Sponsored by the Monticello Interfaith Council. All people of faith are invited. Car larcenies: The latest crime wave in Sullivan County

Sheriff’s Deputies are battling the latest crime wave to besiege Sullivan County: larcenies from automobiles. In the last 3 months deputies have investigated 53 incidents from Livingston Manor to Rock Hill, from Smallwood to Glen Spey. Monticello mayor arrested; Driving while intoxicated and other charges

Gordon Jenkins, the mayor of Monticello, reportedly turned up at the site of a car accident on Broadway on November 16, and a volunteer firefighter suspected that he had been drinking. He reported his suspicion to the Monticello police. Jenkins left the scene but was later arrested by the Monticello police and taken to the station.  Read more

Bomb threat at RJK Middle School in Monticello

On Monday, November 18, 2013 at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Robert J. Kaiser Middle School received a bomb threat. A note was found, turned into a teacher, who then brought it to the attention of the administration.  Read more

Sullivan County Human Rights Commission urges passage of ENDA

The Sullivan County Human Rights Commission has issued the following statement: “We are pleased that the U.S. Senate passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) that will provide basic protections against workplace discrimination to LGBT people. However, we are concerned that the House of Representatives will not get enough votes to make this important bill into the law of the land. The Human Rights Campaign has been working toward this moment for nearly two decades.  Read more
