Sullivan County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested three subjects last week who allegedly preyed upon an elderly resident of Livingston Manor. Phillip Edwards, 25, of Livingston Manor was taken into custody on June 3, 2011 and charged with felony possession of stolen property, burglary and petit larceny.

It is alleged that Edwards went to the residence of an 88 year old Livingston Manor woman on June 2, 2011 and told her the she owed him $150 for work he had done and demanded payment.

Edwards had in fact done no such work. Edwards also convinced the victim to give him an extra $400 as a loan so that he could purchase parts to fix his truck. The victim was told the loan would be paid back June 1st. The victim felt intimidated and gave Edwards a check for $550.

When Edwards attempted to cash the check at the First National Bank of Jeffersonville in Livingston Manor, an alert teller who was familiar with the victim refused to accept it. At the time of Phillip Edwards’ arrest, Detectives also recovered silver coins that belonged to the victim’s son and had been stolen from the residence.
