A march against Ideal Snacks

About 115 people from the community and beyond marched on May 8 in support of workers who were laid off two weeks ago from Ideal Snacks. All of the workers were reported to be undocumented immigrants, some of whom had worked for the company for ten years.

The marching route was overseen by police officers from Village of Liberty Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff's office and the New York State Police. The marchers included Sullivan County Legislator Cora Edwards, Sandy Shaddock of Teamsters Local 447, other Teamsters members, church groups, human rights advocates and others.  Read more

Traffic stop, drug bust

On Wednesday May 13th, 2015 Liberty Troopers arrested a Liberty man and a Youngsville man for drug charges and Driving While ability Impaired by Drugs charges.

Liberty Troopers conducted a traffic stop on ST-17 in the Town of Thompson on Wednesday night. Upon interview of the driver Jeremie Whitted, of Youngsville, it was discovered that there was Marihuana and pills in the vehicle.  Read more

Treasurer for Firefighters fund arrested

On April 27, 2015 State Police at Liberty arrested the treasurer for the Firefighter's Burn Treatment Fund, William Clark, after an investigation into the theft of money from the fund's account.

The Firefighter's Burn Treatment fund was established in 1976 to assist local volunteer firefighters who are injured in the line of duty. The Fund serves firefighters in Orange, Sullivan, Dutchess and Ulster Counties. The investigation determined that Clark, age 52 of Swan Lake, NY stole over $1000 in cash from the fund over the course of the past year.  Read more

Registration for summer camp

The Town of Liberty Parks and Recreation Department will hold non-Liberty resident registration for the Hanofee Park Summer Day Camp and the Summer Swim Lesson program at the Liberty Senior Center, 8am. Liberty Aglow Lighthouse meeting

Loch Sheldrake man arrested for rape

On April 6, 2015 State Police at Liberty arrested Michael Fisher, age 21 of Loch Sheldrake, NY after an investigation determined that he had sexual intercourse with a fourteen year old child. The incident was determined to have occurred in December of 2014 in the Town of Fallsburg.  Read more

Three arrested in Liberty for drugs

Village of Liberty Police arrested three people on March 16th, 2015 after an investigation into a firearm being brandished from a a vehicle at two individuals on Main Street in the evening hours. Police investigation resulted in locating the vehicle involved a short time later on North Main Street. Subsequent investigation resulted in locating approximately 5 grams of cocaine packaged for sale and a small amount of marihuana inside the vehicle.  Read more
