The Cochecton Democratic Club has endorsed six candidates for November’s election. Hollye Schulman, town clerk, and Eileen Hennessy, tax collector, both incumbents, are missing from the picture, because they were busy meeting and greeting.
The Cochecton Democratic Caucus was held on July 18 at the town hall. Hollye Schulman, the incumbent town clerk, was nominated to run again for the position. Eileen Hennessy, the incumbent tax collector, was nominated again; Steven Sauer and Craig Fine, both incumbent judges, were also re-nominated. At the June 12 monthly meeting of the Cochecton Town Board, the cursory review of correspondence directed to supervisor Gary Maas was unusually remarkable. A letter from Mark DePaul Lowery, Climate Policy Analyst with the Office of Climate Change at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, was openly critical of Town of Cochecton Resolution 29, Climate Smart Community Pledge. Voters in the Sullivan West School District overwhelmingly approved a $34.4 million budget, 453-185, for 2013-14. The spending plan comes with a tax levy increase of 1.99%, which is beneath the district’s state-mandated tax cap and lower than six other districts in Sullivan County. Read more
