The supervisors of Lackawaxen Township approved the proposed expansion of the Holbert Brothers Bluestone Quarry at a meeting on July 20, but before doing so, township solicitor Tony Waldron read a list of 10 conditions that he recommended by attached to the approval, and the supervisors agreed to the conditions. More opposition to the proposed expansion of the Holbert Brothers Bluestone Quarry has surfaced. The Upper Delaware Council has sent a letter to the Lackawaxen supervisors asking them to reject the conditional use permit application because it would “constitute a clear violation of the Lackawaxen Township Zoning Ordinance, and it is not in substantial conformance with the Land and Water Use Guidelines in the River Management Plan (RMP) for the Congressionally-designated Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, a unit of the National Park Service (NPS).” Read more

Wayne and Dave Holbert are seeking a permit that would allow them to expand their bluestone quarrying operation, which is now about 10 acres, by an additional 40 acres. The application permit says that the acreage is located in a rural district, and that “operations will consist of blasting, crushing and screening of limestone rock within the permit area.” Read more
