Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament

Monticello Elks Lodge #1544 14th annual Scotch Doubles Bowling Tournament at Kiamesha Lanes, 2pm. Each team will consist of 1 male and 1 female. There will be 4 games of No Tap bowling plus a full chicken barbecue including beer, wine and soda at the Elks Lodge following the tournament. Prizes for top 3 teams. Donation: $40 per team. Cappelli sues EPT, Empire

Developer Louis Cappelli’s Concord Associates has filed a federal lawsuit against Empire Resorts and Entertainment Properties Trust (EPT), alleging that the latter broke anti-trust laws in collaborating to block his racino plans for the site of the old Concord Hotel. The suit seeks $1.5 billion in damages.

Cappelli still owns about 116 acres of the hotel site, but Empire Resorts and Entertainment Properties Trust now own the balance of the 1600 acres once belonging to the hotel. The transfer of property was part of a 2010 settlement of a legal dispute, in which both sides sued each other.  Read more

Honesdale nixes B&B

The Honesdale Borough Council voted unanimously on May 24 to deny a conditional use permit to a renovated building on West Street that the owner had sought to turn into a bed and breakfast. Council member Barbara Lewis introduced the measure to deny the permit because the building does not meet borough code specifications for such an establishment.  Read more

The New York State Police at Liberty announced the arrest of Lars Ryder, age 22 of Fraser Road, Kiamesha Lake, NY, for Murder in the 2nd degree, as a result of the homicide of Elizabeth Mucci, 31 of Hankins, NY.  Read more
