Good crowd for registration drive; ‘Vote where it counts’ effort in Sullivan

There was a festive atmosphere at the barn in Jeffersonville where full-time residents and weekenders gathered for a voter registration drive on October 6. Posters for the drive urged residents to “vote where it counts,” and was aimed at, among others, people who own second homes in Sullivan County, and who are, according to various court decisions, therefore eligible to vote in Sullivan County, even if the residents spend more time at a home elsewhere.  Read more

It’s well-established law in New York State that residents who occupy more than one home have a choice about where they can register and vote. A person who owns or rents an apartment in New York City, for instance, and who also owns a second home in the Town of Delaware, is permitted to register and vote in the Town of Delaware even if that home is not the voter’s primary place of residence.  Read more

Jeffersonville Volunteer of the Year

Jack Costello, a member of Jeff Lions and Jeffersonville Enhances more of Sullivan (JEMS), was dubbed volunteer of the year at the Jeffersonville Firehouse on September 14. The award came from Village of Jeffersonville Mayor Bill Thony and his board. Costello said in an email, “I was speechless and for once kept quiet especially after our exciting JEMS duck race earlier, but I need to set the record straight.”  Read more

Marie Zelesky turns 106

On September 12, Marie Zelesky thought she was going to the regular meeting of the Jeffersonville Seniors Club at the Jeffersonville Town Hall. Little did she know that Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther had planned a surprise birthday party for Marie, who will turn 106 years old on September 20. There were balloons, cake, party hats and Marie’s closest friends for the celebration.  Read more

Chicken BBQ & Barn Dance
