Robert Jufer, 72, of Honesdale, PA pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter, graded as a felony of the first degree and one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. The incident occurred on October 17, 2010, in Cherry Ridge Township. Jufer faces a maximum penalty of 22 years in prison and a $30,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 2, 2014. Jufer was arrested on February 6, for the murder of his wife, June Jufer. Read more
Nilsa Lebron, age 56, of Honesdale was sentenced by President Judge Raymond L. Hamill to one to four years in state prison for conspiracy to possess marijuana with the intent to deliver. The conviction was the result of an investigation by the Wayne County Drug Task Force (WCDTF). Read more

At an emotionally charged October 14 meeting, the Honesdale Borough Council appointed Rick Southerton to a conditional one-year term as commissioner of police/police chief. Passage of the resolution by a partial council (Scott J. Smith and Sam B. Mikulak were absent) was greeted with angry dissent by the public contingent present to support Sergeant Ron Kominski’s candidacy for that office. Kominski, who has been performing the duties of the chief since Joseph LoBasso resigned that position on July 31, had previously filled in for LoBasso whenever he was unavailable. Read more
