Staff cuts at local medical centers

The Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS) has announced that due to substantial reductions in reimbursement from the federal and state governments, as well as other decreases in revenue which they claim are caused by healthcare reform, that it has been forced to immediately reduce its labor force. Catskill Regional Medical Center will lay off the equivalent of 60 full-time positions. Orange Regional Medical Center will lay off the equivalent of 80 full-time positions.  Read more

Five Sullivan residents arrested for stealing copper pipes

On Friday April 12, 2013 at approximately 12:00 Noon, a NYSEG employee who was reading electrical meters in the Town of Bethel noticed a suspicious vehicle and suspicious subjects in the vicinity of 561 Harris/Bushville Rd.

The NYSEG employee mentioned the suspicious activity to a next door neighbor who called 911 and reported a burglary in progress. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the location but the subjects fled prior to the patrol’s arrival.  Read more

Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) announced it has received designation as a Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) site. According to a CRMC press release, NICHE is the only national designation that indicates a hospital’s dedication to elder care excellence.  Read more
