Lumberland Fire Department Auxiliary is putting on a giant flea market at the Lumberland Town pavilion on Proctor Rd., 9am-4pm. Parking and admission are free. Vendor space is available by calling 845/856-7989.

Lumberland constable recognized

At the March 13 Town of Lumberland meeting, constable Robert Maas was recognized by chief constable Pat Cahill and the town board for going above and beyond when performing his duties as a patrolman. Maas has been a lifelong resident of the Lumberland/Highland area and has been a Lumberland constable since February of 2010. He was instrumental in solving several local crimes in conjunction with the New York State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s patrol.  Read more

Lumberland power outage discussed; Town fire department lauded for deer rescue

A six-hour power outage that affected the Town of Lumberland was caused by a breaker defect, supervisor Nadia Rajsz reported at the January 9 board meeting. “It was very unexpected,” Rajsz said of the January 4 outage.

The supervisor said she was told by a representative of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. that the defect in the breaker caused it to blow. According to the Orange and Rockland website, the outage affected about 1,000 customers.

The outage lasted from about 7:20 a.m. until about 1:20 p.m., Rajsz said.  Read more

Lumberland pulls together through Sandy

Communities large and small were drenched, devastated and wind-swept by the fierce winds of Hurricane (or depending on the locale, “Superstorm”) Sandy. Sullivan County was not exempt. At the Lumberland Town Board meeting on November 14, supervisor Nadia Rajsz and the board, strongly seconded by community members, spoke about a small town valiantly coming together to cope with crisis.  Read more
