The presence of four law enforcement professionals stationed in the George Ross Mackenzie Elementary School gymnasium last Saturday morning was a clear sign of the tension that has built over the past several months as the Town of Lumberland has conducted a series of public sessions on its proposed zoning rewrite. But other than removing one man briefly in response to his repeated disruptions, and gesturing to another to cease doing the same, peace was kept and progress was made.

Tempers flared at the latest public hearing on the Town of Lumberland’s proposed zoning rewrite on February 6, where public comments were again received by the town board. While only nine individuals spoke, a large crowd packed the hall and repeatedly disrupted the process with outbursts. Read more
Most of the attention to the proposed new zoning code for the Town of Lumberland so far has gone to Article 10, which would ban some high-impact industrial uses in the town such as gas drilling. Saturday, December 17, 2011 - A Town of Highland Constable conducted a traffic stop of a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer on State Rte 55 for speeding. The officer noticed the operator had the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and contacted the NYSP for assistance. Read more
